Power steering pump
« on: 20 July 2009, 18:34:11 »

Do the power steering pumps give much trouble on the Omega
The reason I ask is since changing the auxiliary belt on Saturday (didn’t notice before) the hydraulic tensioner is doing a fair bit of bobbling about also when the car is idling it seems a lumpy tickover when I turn the wheel left or right I can hear a squealing sound  …cant really get me hands mucky right now …just wondering what your thoughts are ??

the tensioner can jump about if the belt is older than couple of years, so first job is to change it,
when you have removed old belt just pull the tensioner off and have a look at the bushes in the ends these are hard plastic but they wear against the ally and can oval, I got somne thin copper sheet and rolled it into the eye of the worn bush and tapped tensioner back into place and its as good as new!!!
think the last one i bought was 58 from the stealers hence the copper shims :y!!,
