You need to pressure bleed the clucth by feeding fluid into the bleed nipple.....and its DOT4 fluid required!

Hi Guys

I'm having a great day today. NOT :(

Last week I topped up the Clutch/Brake Fluid, after my clutch problems and it got me going. I intended to reverse bleed it this weekend to be sure, which was kindly suggested by a couple of you lads. But it p***sed down here all weekend.

Anyway I've started to have the same problem, clutch low bitting point then none :o Then back again.

So I've got the car jacked and new Axle stand under etc. Shringe and clear tube loaded with fluid. no air to be seen.
Fits on the clutch slave nipple, open nipple and push the fluid in. Problem being there's nearly as much fluid coming out of the nipple thread, than I'm putting in :(

Is this normal?
I've done two lots now and there's a nice puddle on the mother in laws drive. ::) :o

Any advice would be appreciated.

Sounds as though you had released/slackened off the nipple enough before you 'injected' the fluid.
Did you try the conventional method first? I had no problems bleeding my Astra's hydraulic clutch with an Easy Bleed.
Have you found out why you were low on fluid in the first place?

Cheers Andy B, that is a poss'.
I've taken the nipple out and put some PTFE tape on the thread and tried again. Not easy putting tape on a thread and your finger over the hole at the same time.
Didn't have any spillage this time. Pumped two lots in again. Working at the mo. But for how long? :-/

I used the pressure method first, didn't want to risk the other way after advice.

Can't find any leakage on the clutch pipework. There is a tiny tear of fluid on the bottom of the bell housing where it joins the engine.

I'm assuming there is a possibility the slave is leaking? :(

But I'm afraid without any info on how it looks inside the bell housing, exept the useless Ha***s manual >:(. I'm working blind.

I does sound like you've a leak.
This is an Astra's slave cylinder/thrust bearing, I believe an Omega is similar. It looks like you'll be ultimately removing your gearbox.  :(

I think your right :'(.
Just had a look at the clutch change in the maintenence guides. Looks like your photo.

I take it that it is proberby a seal in the slave?

Thing is at 160,000. If I have to go in that direction, would it be worth changing the clutch at the same time?

Could be, but the pipes are a push-in fit with a kind of 'O' seal on the pipe. Haynes does suggest you replace it, I didn't when I swapped my Astra's gearbox - so far so good  :-X  ;)

I suppose it depends how much you want to spend on your car & how long you're likely to be keeping it. I made the mistake of buying another clutch plate before I dismantled my car ... there was bugger all wrong with the old clutch!  :( I'd have a look first before I bought a new one.  :y
