your experience of reman please
« on: 04 July 2009, 21:23:07 »

Over the last 4 months I have sent 3 abs ecu's and a Corsa dash to reman and each time they were unable to repair but could sell me a replacement.

Maybe I am a suspicious old sod but it smells a bit to me.
I now need an abs ecu for my omega and guess what?

When I check it I get intermittant contact with the ECU, speedo not working, cruise down and power steering too. All the usual suspects.

Send the unit off and lo and behold - they can't fix it but this time they can't sell me one either except for £441.60p inc vat and carriage and this one had a pump attached.

Maybe I am a cynic but it wiffs from here.

Who on the forum has had work done recently by reman?

I don't want to know about 2 - 3 - 4 years ago or my mate or his girlfriend's father's brother. - Just those that have actually used it themselves in the last 12 months.

Did you get yours repaired or replaced?

By the way if anyone has a unit from a facelift 2.5 V6 auto item code number 0273 004 283 that they would like to part with please let me know...

I have no experience of reman and I don't know how proficient you are in your mechanical skills. I would suggest getting a tech2 readout by one of the admins - there is a meet coming up where this is on offer i believe.

I have a garage and full access to all the electronic wizardry provided by Snap-on to check, change, calibrate and make a four course dinner on any car.

Thanks for the input but I am content that the unit is faulty. :y

Its Reman I am interested in not if I have a problem with the car................ but thanks for your input. ;D

Anyone have the part I need?

Isn't Marky Mark around or Chris (sorry  :-[ I can't think of his forum name) I'm sure either might have a suitable ABS brain.

sent a volvo throttle body to bba. Didnt work when returned to me. Sent it back and they then decided it could not be fixed! They had to buy in another and re con that. Not impressed. Could have had a new one for £50 more, albeit discounted from volvo, and saved a load of agro. They refused any compensation for 3 hours work to remove and re fit a second time. Will look elsewhere next time.

methinks you mean me ??  :)  White box parked up again afetr a very pleasant weekend away in it  :)

Anyway .. it is now nearly 2 years since this occured .. so may be outside the OP's "guide" ... but I had an ABS ECU repaired by them on the old miggy.

Long story short .. VX said that the ECU on its own was not repairable/repl;acveable and the whole module had to be replaced for £700 + .. in parts alone. We were due to leave for our annual French holiday (with the white box in tow)  in 10 days and I was concerned about doing 2000 miles with this problem ...

Found bba-reman and phoned them, result was ECU was sent by courier on the monday morning, they phoned on wednesday to say it had been tested, 3 faults found, all repairable, did I want to go ahead. Cost would be £125. I said yes, gave CC details, the ECU arrived by courier on the Friday .. so £125 included VAT and delivery.

It was fitted Saturday morning, tested that afternoon, and on the Tuesday we sailed for France. :)

Never had a single problem with it, traded the car in for the present one 6 months later ... the ECU was not a factor in that decision ... :)

So I'm  a fan of BBA-Reman  :)

I used a company called ECU Testing I think off eBay last June and they were very good. Try them. I donlt have the invoice in front of me and I might have the name wrong, but there is at least one company that is genuine.

Well the saga continues................. :(

Reman sent the wrong unit!... >:(

my garage rings them and Reman says "we must have mis-read the number off the ecu" and asks for the matching number off the body.......

"yes" says Reman we have one to match that number it will be in the post today.... ;)

2 days later  - nothing......... >:(

rang up again - yup the replacement will be in the post today........... :o

my garage rang me...
Reman had called them and said they did not have the correct unit and would have to source one - don't know when that would be... >:(

Meanwhile I have no car and they have my £441 .... >:(

I ring them back and ask what they are playing at...
Reman go thro the story with a matter-of-fact tone, no remorse or concern... >:(

I tell them send back the part and refund my money...

Reman says ok, bye.....

So the part number I need is 0(or 1*) 273 004 206

any offers out there?  :'(

* = number as listed for the car at Vauxhall main dealers for £368...

I have just had my abs ecu refurbed by them (only took 4 days from sending to return), it was sent back on friday, 125 quid, found it faulty and it has been fixed back on the car. I have only done about 30 miles since but fingers crossed no problems.

I was going to post on a new thread how impressed I was with BBA, can't thank them enough as the other option if they could not fix it was not worth thinking about.

I suppose it is like everything else in life, recommend a restaurant to a friend as you thought it was great only to get your friends say it was cr@p.

Sent off my ABS ECU to BBA for fixing, not impressed by the state of it when it returned, works fine now, but the outer case looks like it was cut off nice until the point where the couldn't be bothered to cut anymore and snapped off the rest. Black case was shattered and glued together with some crappy glue had to put some sealent around the cracks to make it weather proof. Would have a go at fixing it myself if I knew how profressional they were (£125)

fitted the new dealer unit on saturday - everything working as it should with no assistance from the snap-on diagnostics.

............................ except one thing......................

the traction control light will not go out.

Will speak to Vauxhall on Monday if I get the chance to see if there is something I need to do.

It is good to have my speedo, cruise control and power steering back... :y
