Dis pack prices???
« on: 25 July 2009, 21:51:17 »

Hi all, Had a missfire on my elite estate last wednesday night on way home from work and it appeared to be only firing on 5 cylinders. Checked next morning and drivers side cam cover and leads oily. Didn`t use car until yesterday when i took it to get cam cover gaskets, new leads and plugs fitted. Picked car up today and was told there was still a missfire and it may be the dis pack. They changed my badly leaking HBV two weeks ago and they think it could have leaked onto my dis pack and damaged it. Shelled out £55 for HBV inc labour and another £150 today for gaskets, leads and plugs inc labour. Looks like more money for a dis pack now. :'(  Any idea of a price for these? Thanx.

Cheers Pete, Definately consider them. Got two weeks off work on my hols but looks like i will be spending it in "Omegaland" getting all the little jobs done i have been meaning to do for the last few months! Got to try and think how to keep the missus sweet while i do them though. ::)

I think paid around £65 for mine from the local motor factors. I did see them cheaper on fleabay but i needed it the same day.
obviously the breakers would be a lot cheaper but they are not nice job to do so you wouldn't wanna be doing it again in a couple of months if it packed up

Hi, Elite Pete gave me a link with some for sale on fleabay. Genuine Bosch at £80+p&p. Holding fire on purchase for a couple of days. Started car up this morning and only small missfire when i blipped the throttle. Held the revs at 1500 and slowly took them up to 4000 and no missfire. Much much better than yesterday when i had missfire through entire range of revs. Suppose the pack could be breaking down under load. Maybe, just maybe just an oily plug because when i picked car up i was told plug wells on drivers side were full of oil and although they syringed most of it out inevitably some went into the cylinders when they took the plugs out to change them and the leads. Car did smoke quite badly on way home for a while and took it easy but cleared later. Are there any fault codes which would indicate a faulty dis pack? May be clutching at straws here but you can always hope. Read on another thread that Loo-Knee may be down this part of the world soon so may pm him.

The only fault code that would show would be a intermitant missfire. it wouldn't actually show as dis pack i don't think

Update on ongoing missfire.... Went out to check tick over on my elite today as i only had slight missfire last night under load. Ran it for 20 mins and it was rough as hell. Did the paperclip test to see if there were any more gremlins lurking and the only fault code i got was 18, Knock control module; replace Electronic Control Unit. Silly question i know, but, would this cause my missfire? Was about to buy a dis pack from e-bay through the link given to me by Elite Pete but may hold off now and see how much a new ECU is. :-/  Are they easy to change?

What a muppet! It wasn`t fault code 18 that flagged up but code 135. :-[ Got the first digit ok (1) but didn`t realise the delay after 3 flashes then another 5 didn`t mean 8 (1+8=18) but in fact 3+5 giving code 135. ::) I was convinced my ECU was knackered but i am now awaiting a reply concerning GM and Bosch part numbers so i can buy and change my DISpack.  :y
