Strange noise from Fan Belt Tensioners
« on: 07 August 2009, 13:26:11 »

Noticed a noise this morning coming from one of the fan belt tensionser on the front of the engine, it seems to only make the noise when a gear is selected or when the car is moving slowly.  Do these need replaced or can they be lubricated?  :)

If they need changed i might as well do the belt as well.

Any idea how much tensioners cost.

cheers

It is better to replace them when you change the belt mate. dont know what price they are though.

There's only one tensioner pulley (top left as you look at the engine). Under 30 quid when I got mine. Easy to replace just one central bolt.

As said there is only the one tensioner for the Auxs. belt which is sprung loaded.

Put the spanner on the nut and turn anti-clockwise to allow belt fitment :y.

Surly it's clockwise .....  :-/ to slacken the belt enough for removal.
