No accelerator
« on: 12 August 2009, 21:37:04 »

I have been to lookat a 2001 CDX estate with leather, it has a genuine 83000 mls on the clock and is a four pot petrol version. The problem with the car is that there is no accelerator, by which i mean the car starts, selects gears (auto) but when the go pedal is pressed..............nothing, i know these are FBW so what could the worse case sinario be, the car has been offered to me for 300 nicker, just dont want to buy it and end up throwing endless amounts of money at it to sort it out. Any suggestions would be greatly received.

Thanks in advance

presume he means no revs, throttle position sensor on pedal and presume must be one on throttle, either breaked sensor or something is unplugged assuming throttle body is ok. 2.2 from your description?

does the engine rev ok when in P or N? If not most likely failing cam sensor. I had it once, start up, press pedal nothing happens. That plus hot starting issues, i replaced the cam sensor, never had any problems since.

some 2.2 owners on here have mentioned the pedal trick works on their cars, may be worth a try? Or could do with tech 2 to confirm, dont suppose the car is near a tech 2 member on here?

But over all would be suprised if the cause was massivly expensive imho. But should point out, not overly familiar with the 2.2. However had similar when forgetting to plug the drive by wire plug back in on mine when re fitting plenum once.

See what others say.

Sounds like the throttle body, pedal position sensor or cam sensor as Tunnie says. A code read would narrow it down for sure so might be worth getting a cheapo Tech 2 on it.

No nothing, just sits there and idles!!!
Seriously thinking about buying it as at 300 quid i should think i could break it at worst and make my money back. Kevin, my thoughts were throttle body as i have heard of a similar problem somewhere else, if it was, would it need tech 2ing to the ecu or just plug and play?

Thanks all for your advice

Ok so its nothing to do with the gearbox, its a sensor issue, most likey cam sensor in my book. Or throttle position sensor. Grab it at that price, cheap fix  :y
