head gasket (unlikely)  Cam covers (more likely).  either of which are a sypmtom of the HG replacement not beling done properly

Mine was doing this, turned out to be the crankshaft oil seal, changed it when I did the cambelt kit :y

In view of the work that's just been carried out, and the apparent leak area, I'd be taking the front cover off the cambelt and looking at the camshaft oil seal areas.  Could also be camcover gasket at the front.

thanks for the advice guys, i cant believe what a total and utter bodge job this guy has done on my HG, cam cover leak i guess is pretty easy to solve, would a camshaft oil seal leak be just as easy to solve? ( it would have to get done at a garage so hoping its a quick and easy and CHEAP  :) solution )

I would take it back to the guy who did the head gasket.

Not really a 5 minute job unfortunately, the timing belt has to come off to remove them :(
You will be able to see if that is the problem just by removing the front cover though.
Have you spoken with trading standards yet? Sounds like he's caused more problems then he's fixed! >:(

Is he a back street garage/mobile mechanic type operator or is it a proper main garage? I'd contact your local trading standards and I would say take it back for him to put right but who know's what else he'll cock up. Maybe you could have it fixed elsewhere and then put a claim in as to the cost of the work?

i've tried contacting him reguarding the temp guage but hes lost all interest now in the car, luckily i got that fixed myself but now ive got this oil leak, dont think i could cope with the stress of taking him to trading standards and all the head work that would involve  :o id rather take it to my local garage that i usual use as i've never had any trouble with their work, wish id taken the HG to them to do now. This oil leak though it definately COULD be the two reason listen in previous posts? it wont be anything to do with the HG?

Had a similar problem with a Jeep I used to have.

Took it to a local garage to have a new HG and cylinder head fitted.  The day after we picked it up, it started running really rough.  Garage took it back, supposidly sorted it, then the problem started again a couple of days later.

I told the garage I was going to drop it off for them to sort, and they said that they wouldn't touch it again - they told me to cut my losses and sell it on!

They soon changed their tune when I informed them that I would be leaving my car with them until it was fully sorted, and that if they had any issues with this that they could take it up with my friend who just so happens to be a solicitor.

Suprisingly, they did sort it out in the end...   ::)

The morale of the story - you've paid for a job, and they ain't delivered.  It's a case of sticking to yer guns with them.

i really wish i could take it back and make the guy do it but i just dont ahve the time , due to my job i need the car pretty much everyday , just seeing this as a major lesson of dont be fopled into using someone with the offer of cheap repairs at the start because at the end it could be a hell of alot different.
The car will go to a garage i trust and they will hopefully sort of this mess ive gotten into. Can you guys just confirm for me ( i know cant 100%) but this oil leak it wont be due to anything to do with the HG itself? its the parts hes put back together ( cam cover gasket or camshift seal) that will be causing it?
