« on: 21 August 2009, 11:05:42 »

ive had a 2.5 td now for a couple of weeks. to be honest its pretty dead and pretty heavy on the derv.id a 325i sport bmw before i got it, and had to sell cause i needed a diesel for work, but its not really saving me anything at all compared to the petrol. any tips to get it pulling/eco a little bit better..?

Hi Bruce, it the TD a manual? If so there is an option to chip the ECU giving you more power and hence more economy  - but his will only work on a manual as the Auto box is too weedy (unless you fancy changing the Auto box to a stronger version - which is an option)

I had my manual TD chipped about 18 months ago and it makes a massive difference. MPG up from about 30 to over 40 and the extra 40/50 bhp helps too!

Yep - if it's a manual-boxed jobbie, chip the tinker!

You will have enough smoke out of her when you get it chipped!

Chipping is the best thing to do to start with. If you want to go further you could look down upping the boost slightly and other little bits, but nothing will make a difference like the chip does - it is excellent  :y
