When disconnected how much coolant will plop out?

There would be at least 3 / 4 liters I would guess not to sure though,
 the pipes are from the heater matrix I believe.

you could always disconnect the pipes from the other end (block / coolant bridge), and the expansion tank return and run a hosepipe through the pipes with them disconnected to unblock it? i did this on my cavalier, worked a treat. the amount of cak that came out was quite special. sadly the matrix itself is buggered on mine, but if the matrix is ok on yours then just unblocking it using this method should be ok

important to remove both ends as you dont want to unblock it by pumping cak back into the block ready for recirculation. as the matrix is usually the lowest compenent to the ground when dealing with the coolant system the cak will inevitably settle there again shortly afterwards.

Thanks guys, I drained it first as I had to do it from hot and didn't want to cook my skin.
A related question; should the little green clips stay in place? If one isn't on, would it leak or would it just not be a secure fit as possible with it on?
