they have tried to do something....and by the seems of it the only thing they could do was to get her punishment commuted to a custodial one rather than corpral punishment.

For some countries religeon is an emotive issue, Islam is one of those, the followers can be fanatical and will not tolerate anyone disrespecting it, however like all things that are put to print you will find the people interpret things as they see fit, you only have to look at our own bible for that.

before i get flamed here i do not support what they have done, i am merely trying to offer a balanced view.

There is a lot of taxpayers money going to Sudan, OUR money. Any mention of that being withheld may bring about a change of heart. But dont hold your breath, our lily-livered government would be frightened of being labelled human rights abusers by the liberal minority who run europe.

It is a silly situation  >:(

Tho i did hear on the radio earlier an interview with a bloke that was caught with alcohol in that country.

He said he was given lashes.......but it wasnt public....when the officer did the lashes he held a copy of the Koran under his arm......so he couldnt raise his arm too high.....and gave the bloke the choice of where to lash him.......he opted for his hands.

So at least the officer doing the lashing in his case......complied with what he was told to do....but i think there was leancy there by the officer.

I just hope she gets the same treatment if given lashes  :y

She got 15 days and back to Blighty. I'd go and piss on the school director before I left, that's acceptable I expect.

:oI accept the arguments along the lines of "could've been lashed" & yes point taken, she's got 10 days to serve after her "remand", she knew where she was going to work etc, when in Rome.....but @ the end of the day this is an english woman & Teddy Bear. Regardless of religion, which let's face it is all unproven beliefs by often educated but weak minded people, there is no need or justification for this.
What did the uk do? Shuffle thier feet, look at the floor, make the odd plea, hold meetings/conferences, the usual limp wristed fanny. I know things like this operate on a higher level than most of us can understand, but this lady is someones Mother/Wife/Sister.....
If that was the case what would your rational thinking tell you to do?  >:(
