For your info
« on: 03 December 2007, 17:19:33 »

Just to let others know, whilst having my wheels sorted out the other weekend at an alloy wheel specialist in Melton Mowbray, the guy took all my tyres off and noticed on 2 of the inside rims there was corrosion, he asked if i used alloy wheel cleaner because he has seen this corrosion on hundreds of wheels due to using an acidic type of cleaner.

I use the Turtle wax alloy wheel cleaner kit, he recommends that i dont, all that is needed is soapy water on a regular basis, as he said, he has seen this many times and it is caused by the various wheel cleaners on the market ,and he said that most people dont know what damage they can do to their rims where the tyres seat.

:(My knighthood was blissfully ignored as well. Never mind. I use a wheel cleaner that must be on then straight off again no iffs or buts. The results are great. It's ok to use them but one wheel at a time. :y

Alloys also have paint on them..Whats applicable to normal car paint is same for alloys..I mostly clean with normal water. And time to time I use normal paint protector..(Turtle wax is not harmful if you dont use frequently and also have carnauba inside)

The majority are not good for the grease on brake calipers either.

No mate, but he did say it will corrode any alloy as it gets behind the seal.
