Urgent please
« on: 03 September 2009, 12:34:00 »

Help I have a problem
It looks like the clutch on the air con has gone loads of smoke coming from it .
This has always been noisey since  I have had the car but its always worked ok
Problem is now it is causing fuse 15 KL  20A  To blow  which kills the insturments (speedo etc ) when the climate is turned on ,ok with it off .
Question is is there a connector on the back of the compressor I can pull off easily  :y

IIRC, there's a connector right on the bottom of the compressor, best accessed from underneath. Probably easier to remove the relay that drives it. K60 rings a bell but can't verify that at the moment.

Can you set climate to "ECO" mode before starting the engine? That will disable aircon, and it won't try to pull the clutch in until the engine starts.

Removed the relay and all is ok for now until I can get to the compressor and swap it .
How much of a job is it to change one of these I realise it will mean degasing the system  :(

Pain in the rse mate - gas connections on top of compressor held by bolt that can only be accessed from above - socket and long extensions and a helper underneath feeling the socket on.  Once the compressor is free its not easy to get out - last one I did had to crowbar the antiroll bar slightly out of way to clear.  As Haynes refitting reverse of removal - care required with seals on top of compressor when refitting gas connections.

I did bearing last week on mine and you can take it out by the front with the three torx bolts first and unscrew pipes connector after.
I don't know if you can see the image.

You might be able to change the clutch without disturbing the compressor. :-/

I did wonder that Kevin , But not actually seeing a compressor other than sat at the bottom of the engine bay it will need some investigation  :(
The air con was actually working ok so the compressor was working ok  :y
Any one know if this would be possible  :question
