Costco car park two years ago... I hear screeching tyres and wonder what boy racer is showing off in the car park, then an old Ford Escort flies by straight into a parked car. The driver is a middle-aged man, in the passenger seat a 10-eesh year old boy flying forward (no belt) and smashes the windscreen with his forehead. Boy was dazed but not badly hurt, and taken to hospital by ambulance.

Turns out the driver had the accelerator jammed and panicked, so he hit the brakes resulting in the car managing to accelerate against the braked wheels...

Not sure if it auto or manual, but there are quite a few things he could do if he did not panic, i.e. push the clutch in, drop the gear in neutral, or just switch-off the ignition... it reminds me of the wacky story with the BMW driver a year or so ago.

Anyway, accidents can happen and people do panic, but the point is that the 10 year old should have never been in the front seat, and indefinitely not without the seat belt.
I suppose the police had something to say about that...

Went to the tip the other day.  Allowed my 4 year old lad to get out of his rear child seat to help me unload at the  first recycling bin.  Then had to move the car 50 yards to the next different recycling bin so I allowed him to sit in the passenger seat.  Drove at sub 10 mph.  Stopped the car, then there was a hell of a bang as he excitedly jumped up from the passenger seat and brained himself on the windscreen.
Is it wrong to piss yourself laughing at such things?
He got more sympathy from the two council contractors standing nearby.

:-[When i was 6 yrs old i sat in the middle of the back seat with an elbow on each front seat & a foot either side of the transmission tunnel, Mum in passenger front, Dad driving (racing everyone) me laughing, Mum yelling. How times change considering the car was a New Cortina MK2 1600 Super!
