Running temp ?

Car seems to be running cooler than normal at around 80 , what should i be checking for i.e thermostat ? :-/

The needle should sit around the middle of the gauge once it's warmed up, if it's not getting that far then could be thermostat stuck open. Does it take a long time to warm up?

yes it seems to take a while to warm up, it used to be about a mile down the road and was at normal temp  :-/ when i say warm up it stays around 80

I'd start with changing the thermostat, if it's stuck open (as I think it is) it's letting the warming water from the block out into the rad thus cooling it before it is needing to be cooled. This will mean it'll take ages to warm up and use more fuel in doing so. HTH :y

is the thermostat an easy job . if so will attempt it today , local motor factors are open  :y oops silly me i have a haynes manual to work from lol :D

Thermostat change is not a quick job, whatever else you do, when you remove the old one don't refit it because it looks closed.
Mine have always seemed ok when removed but a replacement has always cured cold runnig.
