If you goto the witter towbar site you can download fitting instructions. You don't have to drop the tank,a bar fits along side the tank. Also the site tell you where to drill near the tank.

Hello Mate

I fitted a brinks detachable towbar to my saloon a few months back. I did drop the fuel tank, BIG MISTAKE. Wasn't needed at all and was a real pita to put back and I only had a 1/4 tank of diesel in it at the time.

One thing I did notice is Vauxhall have very kindly made it easy for you to drill the holes in the right place. They have covered the holes with a thin plate with a dimple in the centre, the dimple is your centre punch mark for the drilling. Some of these are 'hidden' underneath the underseal but if you use the towbar brackets as a template then you can't really go wrong.

There are loads of threads on the electrical side should you need them as well.

Hope this helps

I put one on my elite without any problems just droped the bloody thing on myself trying to get the nuts on the bolts, all the holes are marked there just hidden by the tar stuff. use a hat air burner to clear it away only takes a couple of seconds.
if you drop the tank how will you get it back on when you have fitted the tow bar?

I've seen 2 types for a saloon. One has a plate that bolts to the inside of the boot floor to transfer loads back to the crossmember behind the diff. The other has a member that runs along the underside of the fuel tank.

In both cases fuel tank removal is not required.

There are 2 bolts with spacers that go through the crossmember between the diff and fuel tank, and the remaining fittings are normally 4 bolts down through the boot floor just in front of the rear bumper and IIRC another 3 that go back behind the slam panel covering the boot lock.

I'd be happy to lend a hand if you like. Easier to show than to describe!
