Stuck Petrol Filler Cap
« on: 10 September 2009, 22:13:36 »

Just had to nurse my car home because the petrol filler cap has somehow jammed shut. Was quite a scary experience driving home 10 miles wondering when you will breakdown.

So why the funk will it not open?

possible the locking pin is stuck or the motor has died, there is an emergency release for the petrol flap in the boot.

Probably it's the solenoid that's wrapped up. There's a way to open it though so you can fill up with petrol again. See below:

Opening  the tank flap in the event  of malfunction of the central locking system
Unlock and open the boot  lid/tailgate. Open the cover on the  right-hand
side of the luggage compartment . The release
rod for  the  tank flap is located be hind the
servo motor. Push the rod
back with  your hand and the tank flap can be
opened.

The actual cap or the door? I can't suggest anything other than brute force if it's the cap itself - it obviously just unscrews - if it's the door as Tunnie suggests, pull back the lock from inside the boot - next to the CD changer if fitted - behind the drop down panel where it's marked first aid kit.  :y
