Postal scam
« on: 22 October 2007, 14:41:03 »

Received this by email today, so I thought I'd pass it on:

Postal Scam - BE WARNED!

Can you circulate this around especially as Xmas is fast approaching - it has been confirmed by Royal Mail. The Trading Standards Office are making people aware of the following scam:

A card is posted through your door from a company called PDS (Parcel Delivery Service) suggesting that they were unable to deliver a parcel and that you need to contact them on 0906 6611911 (a premium rate number). DO NOT call this number, as this is a mail scam originating from Belize. If you call the number and you start to hear a recorded message you will already have been billed £15 for the phone call.

If you do receive a card with these details, then please contact Royal Mail Fraud on 02072396655 or ICSTIS (the premium rate service
regulator) at www.icstis.org.uk

Having just read it again, it makes me wonder why they don't just block the number, or is that technically difficult?

I bet you can't find any reference on the suggested websites. The email is likely a 'virus' spread by people rather than automatically.  Fortunately, no payload, other than clogging mail systems...

HEADS UP EVERYONE.... IMPORTANT UPDATE!!!! THESE SCAMS ARE NOT AN URBAN MYTH!!!

not realising yesterday what i had in my hand, i delivered a card through the door of the address on it, thinking nothing more about it, but today it was given back to me, thankfully the guy had checked it out first. I took photos of it to post on here and i've sent it back to royal mail so i can deal with it tomorrow

THIS IS THE CARD

THIS I SUSPECT IS A FAKE PRINTED "PREPAID STAMP"

I MUST STRESS THIS IS NOT AN E-MAIL WARNING, BUT THE ACTUAL CARD I PERSONALLY DELIVERED YESTERDAY WHILE OUT DOING MY JOB

thanks, i hope no one falls for it, i made sure my mum didnt get one

0870 numbers are charged at 8-10p/min iirc......so they are gonna have to keep you on the phone for a long time to make anything worthwhile......and the company using 0870 dont get all the dosh, they get a cut from the phone company.......but i think this cut is about to outlawed next year by ofcom.

Tho i agree bit naughty saying calls charged at local rates on the card!
