The hard to start when hot is a common problem and there's a cheap fix on Ebay which works by fooling the glow plugs into thinking the engine is cold and heats them up aiding start up.

Have you checked the small pipe that runs from the underside of the inlet manifold to the boost sensor, make sure its not blocked

I have the same problem with Syd, I have go the hot fix kit from Ebay but have not fitted it yet as the alternator has just gone. I always carry bottles of cold water to pour on the pump just in case and this has got me out of some awkward situations. Once its hot it would take a good 20 seconds to turn over and each time I think the battery is going to die :o I got a new battery and made a huge difference until the alternator went last week :(

The "Cold" water trick seems a good idea ....i am suessing the pump has some sort of tempreture sensor in it and is letting little fuel in the ebay box would hold the glow plug relay closed for a little while whilst enriching the / letting more fuel through hence 1 wire from it goes to the ecu ?....ill see how it is in the morning as i said earlier its got alot worse today spk tomoz of to bed  :y

I've read the water trick is to do with the pump expanding when hot so its not pumping as much, pour cold water on it and it contracts, but don't know if thats right ;)

There's a fuel temperature sensor within the injection pump.
I'm pretty sure that it's non-serviceable, Omegatoy can probably confirm.

First, when the hot start problem occurs, try pouring a jug of cold water over it. If it fires up, then this sensor is your problem.
Next, what's your battery condition?
I cured mine, (and one or two others), by fitting a correct model-specific one, as I had a hot start problem even after fitting a new injection pump. It's run with no bother since.

My TD starts instantly from cold, should do I have had new glow-plugs only around 15000 miles ago.
I have got a slight hot starting problem, in my case it might just be the battery. They don't last forever and I reckon it's still on the original factory fitted one, which is 9 years old, so not bad. I think it's about time I changed it before winter, or it let's me down.

I see you're becoming a TD expert now Pete, nothing to do with the work you did on mine is it? ::) And I see you also drive one too.
