Sat Nav update for 2001 Elite
« on: 17 September 2009, 12:36:56 »

Anyone know of a good place to get cheap (free?) sat nav updates for the sat nav system on my car? It has the NCDC 2013 Bose audio system.

I'm not sure if it would be better than my screen-mount satnav (which is why I'd like to avoid paying for it) but I'd like to see what the later software and maps are like - the ones I've got aren't very good, it hasn't even got my current address on it which has existed for yonks!

Any thoughts/advice appreciated.

come up on ebay for around £30 for current 2009 map.  Probably possible to illegally download, but:

a) we don't allow those sort of discussions here - sorry
b) using CDRs will knacker the laser prematurely on these units

I use 2009 map. Although map has been updated with most recent roads (for eg, the A30 from Bodmin to Indian Queens is on there), the software itself hasn't had any updates since around 2005. So still no postcodes, and no UK TMC.

Tomtom is more feature packed, and easier to use, but the Siemens wins on the following points imho:

a) no telltale 'windscreen circles' advertising there is a satnav in the glovebox
b) factory fit, convenient, always available, less crap to put in missus handbag
c) unbeatable for accuracy, particularly in built up areas or other 'difficult' areas for portable systems.

In my MV6 I have the older CARiN built in system, the newer Siemens system as fitted to later Omegas, and Tomtom 7 on my Windows Mobile.  I have to say, the Siemens is the system I tend to use.

The original disc that came with the car had full UK street level & A lot of Europe (can't now remember exactly what) as main routes. The first time we used it in France we 'fell off' the area covered by the disc.  ;D

Sure I paid around £25 delivered for my 2009 - there are a few on Ebay, often with 'best offer' options ;)

i have reverted to my 03 disc, mainly because of the irritating tmc reminder to change radio to classic fm, plus destination memory refuses to work on newer version, never any old destinations saved!?!

I dont use it that often, so havent noticed many wrong road layouts, apart from the two at the end of my road. :-)

Yeah, having to reenter memory based destinations after every update is a PITA, but I guess understandable restriction.

I did manage to stop the annoying TMC thing a while back, but blowed if I can remember how  :-[

Oh well if thats the case TB ill stick to the 2007 version as its simple to use the memory function, I too was fed up of the TMC saying was reverting as i told you once before it looks like it could work but alas it doesnt To disable TMC go to your tuner button down to functions and disable TMC Messagess job done
no morte reverting to Classic FM
