« on: 17 September 2009, 02:26:27 »

Any of you fine people know if the 2.2 has a belt or chain driven cam. And what mileage should you replace them at.

The DTI has a chain but sorry don't know when it should be changed although unless noisy it should be fine as they do high mileages without any problems :y.

DTI is chain.

Because of this, keep on top of oil changes (the particulates in that collect in oil on diesels is abrasive, and unkind to chains).  Don't even think of sticking to Vauxhall's daft schedule, it needs changing much more regularly.

Chain/Sprocket/Guides replacement should only be done when it needs doing, which is dependent on how its been serviced.  Properly serviced, should be good for likely life of engine (200k +)

Dti is chain but don't risk the silly 20k service interval ours was serviced at 20k with oil & filter at 10k until it snapped at 401k replacement now done 40k + original 80k sounds sweet still..wonder if it'l make 500k ;D ;D ;D

I would say 5k is more than enough miles on a diesel between oil changes, whether you use the most expensive fully synth whizzy-bang hyper oils, or the good old cheap as chips GM semi at £8 + VAT for 5l ;)

Half an hour and a few quid each month or a huge bill for a rebuild, I know which one I would prefer ;)

Thanks all :) looking to change from my 3.0 elite to the diesel version, changed job locations so am now driving 12 miles each way across lincoln city so is about a Gallon a day. Looking at a very clean 2.2 dti CDX  03 plate,1 owner from new shed load of history with a 154k on the clock. Its had new gear box at 130k and new clutch at 145k sounds sweet as a nut ( for a diesel ) no smoke at idle or on the over run been offered 50/50 on the price with mine as trade in
