Manifold gasket

My exhaust manifold gasket is blowing.How easy is it to change.Vx tell me this is a known problem on the 2.0 ecotec engine and there is a modified gasket to cure this problem but the Saturday boy is a bit thick and can not find the part number for the gasket any clue's ?

Never done one, but some of the boy's on here have.

Don't know how easy it is, but you can be sure some of the bolts will snap when you try to remove them, I'm afraid.

Most of the experts are working on cars this weekend so you may have to wait a while for a proper response.

You could just buy some gasket paper and make your own, or clean the old 1 up and put some gasket sealer or exhaust putty or joiner glue, :y

Easy peasy on a 4 pot but be careful as they are prone to stripping the threads when re-tightening. Go to your local motor factors, most decent ones will stock the steel multiplate gaskets :y

cheers but what's with the modified gasket that Vx dealer was going on about and do i have to drop the exhaust .How long do you think it will take to do.

I may be able to help you out here, if you're not in a tearing hurry.

I believe the gasket you want is a three-layer metal one, GM part number 24443291.

I have a spare that I'm very unlikely to want; it came with a headgasket kit, but I didn't remove the exhaust manifold when doing the HG, 'cos it had been off a year or so earlier, and had fresh gasket, studs and nuts which I preferred not to disturb again.
Yours for the postage (should be cheap) plus a quid.

As for removal/refitting, not too bad.  I was pleasantly surprised when I did mine, some of the studs just unscrewed with the nuts, all came out without trouble, except for the one that was already snapped  ::). That's another story.

Disconnect manifold from downpipe (new bolts + gasket recommended), shift heatshield and a few other bits out of the way, and you're in.

May be worth a close look at the thermostat area before you buy bits, new o-ring/sealant advised if there's any sign of leakage here.

Just had new downpipes and cat fitted so this gasket should be fine,just add gumgum.But i did notice a blowing sound from somewhere around the manifold before these were fitted.No special tools need then just normal nut and bolts,this makes a change.

Horrible job on a v6 i changed mine never want to have it to do again but a 2lt should be handy enough done.
