Unstable under braking.
« on: 20 September 2009, 15:40:06 »

The car pulls to the right under braking, I have to turn the wheel slightly to the left.

Any ideas please?

New steering idler. drop links, and wishbones in the last year.

Buypartsbuy wishbones and they feel a bit floppy on the front bushes already - but that may be OK

Not sure it's related but mine did a hell of a lot shaking when braking from above 50mph, warped or corroded front discs maybe. Are both of yours ok?Mine were replaced and it solved the problem.

Seized slides or sticky/lazy brake calliper

Assumed tyre pressures ok ;)

Calipers sliding OK. May regrease.

Not sure on pressures but were OK last week.

Idler arm however moved vertically 3mm or 4mm as I was pushing & pulling on the passenger wheel with steering locked.

oops!!! should be no movement vertically!!! try puting it on full lock and then gently turning the wheel a little more while watching the idler arm if it moves vertically as you apply the pressure and release it then idler or pin is worn!!

Perhaps it was a dodgy one :(

I think my test was similar it was up and down.

Just what I need  - more expense :( :(

Same as on mine, complete ****, in the process of getting my original GM ones re-bushed then they will be melted down to make a Hyundia

The first lot of wishbones I got for ours from Bpb were sloppy as soon as they were fitted, as VXL said...complete crap.

Sent them back and got a set from Camberley Auto Factors, made by Delphi Lockheed and blatantly obvious they were a much better fit as soon as they were bolted up.

First thing I'd do with the fault you describe is find a local friendly garage and get them to put the front wheels in the rollers and measure the braking force in order to determine where to start looking.

I had exactly the same problem recently Martin. I Had new wishbones fitted a few months ago and it turned out they were the cause of the problem. Had another set of new ones fitted and problem solved.
