So i went to the shop and they said they think i have a fuel leak under the manifold while i was getting an oil change they said it could be a couple diffrent thing.

My check engine light is not on.
I do Smell Gas a little when i get out of the car.

I own a 1997 catera. I believe its the same as the 3.0 mv6 i could be mistaken it might be a diffrent car.

My question is are these cares prone to this happening and what would you guys think it is if it is a common isue.

I have done a little work on cars my self but i always read out of those chilton books if any one can point me in a dirrection of information

Never seen an Omega/caterra with a fuel leak.

Have the injectors been removed ever?

Are the supply and return pipes to the fuel rail tight?

i am not the origonal owner so i do not know id they have been removed car is at 940000 miles.
they sayed the fuel leak was under the manifold
is there mabey a guid to read to remove the manifold so i can get a better look

i Guess my question better refrased is what is under the manifold that can leak so i know what to look for and what kinda $$$ it will cost to replace at most before i start rummaging around

There is a picture showing the lower inlet trumpets after the upper inlet manifold has been removed. A pair of flexible fuel pipes on the right side of the engine feed the fuel rail (which runs in a loop between the inlet trumpets). IIRC the fuel injectors are clamped in place in the lower inlet trumpets by the fuel rail.

If somebody has had the fuel rail off and damaged the injector O-rings then that could be the source of your leak.

The only thing that could leak is the injector to fuel rail seal, and only after its been removed (they dont just fail, but can be damaged).

You need to remove the plenum, this guide covers this (plus some more) but, beware that the caterra is slightly different.

A nice simple check is to remove the plenum, knock the igniton on and then fire the fuel pump up by activating the relay (K44) which can be found as per the following guide (again, assuming the Caterra is the same as the Omega)

An easy way to do this is, ignition on and pop the plastic cover off the relay, then press the contacts in to activate the fuel pump and observe!
