first query

hi everyone, heres my first query , i just got a 03 2.2 dti  cd

i noticed a small stain in the driveway, in front of drivers wheel, it feels like brake or steering fluid, checked underneath, some sort of gadget there, it was dripping off that, it has a plug which is disconnected, i hope these help....thnx

What does the stain smell of? I'd hazard a guess at diesel as it looks like a pre-heater.

its odourless, whats its function? and why would it be disconnected? should i reconnect it?

also does the cambelt and tensioner change apply to deisel engines or are they a different set up?

Diesels (both 2.5TD BMW and the 2.2's) are chain driven cams. Regular service intervals are a must (maximum 5k between). :y

I could be wrong but I think the 2.2 diesel has a seperate heater which is diesel fueled and for colder climates

A while ago my old man thought he had a coolant leak from under his car so he tasted the fluid to see if it was sweet to taste, it wasn't, turns out his drains were blocked ;D ;D
