Cheers Ken. Do you think three days should be enough to get the job done?  ::)

brake pipes are not too bad, just getting under the car to fit them can be a pain.......

I have a brake pipe flaring kit if you want to borrow it

all i have ever done in the past is cut the ends off and reuse then (so long as they are in good nick of course) get the right bore copper pipe, measure it, flare the ends and happy days.

Then bleed the system, getting litres of fluid all over the place and making a mess of the drive :y

Cheers Jay. Are you about this weekend? I may take you up on the offer even if it's just a standby if the new pipe needs flaring.  :y

to stop the brake fluid going every where a simple thing is to put a layer of cling film over the reservoir and put the cap back on

hope it makes sense :-)

See if your local car spares shop can make the replacements for you Martin.
Most will if you can take in the original as a pattern.
Try and ensure they use copper/nickel pipe commonly known as cunifer, its a lot easier to bend to follow the routing of your original pipe than steel and lasts longer too.

That's what I did with mine.  They made it up while I waited.   Then I bent it to shape which was an interesting 3D exercise (not difficult though).

I tried the cling film which worked to a degree.   I also saw someone else suggesting screwing a spare bleed nipple into the point where you have removed the pipe from.

Right guys, thanks for all your help. As usual, you're just brilliant and all good advice. I've decided not to brave the force 9 gale whilst attempting a job that I've never contemplated before, so I will replace the discs and pads, which I can do easily enough and the car is booked in at the garage to have the pipes replaced and the retest done on Monday afternoon.

When the weather improves I will have a look at the other two pipes and will replace these when I have more time.

Thanks again for all your advice and support.  :y

Especially when you get the wheel off and the brake caliper and the brake disc only to find out that the motor factors has given you the wrong parts.  >:(

Had to drive back to St Austell to get the replacements only find that I couldn't remember how the outside pad fitted and the spring clip came off and it was raining and blowing a gale and getting dark.  >:( >:( :'( :'(

Only the offside left to do in the morning. Happy days.  :(

Bad news for me. The wifes 1998 Astra G failed the MOT test today. I was afraid it might fail on the emissions, given the rough idleing which I haven't sorted yet, but actually it failed on the brakes.

The report said, brake discs and pads badly worn so no problem there I can replace those easily enough. The problem is that it also says off side front brake pipe and near side rear brake pipe badly corroded. I told the garage that I would put the things right myself but I don't have a clue how to replace the brake pipes.

Can I buy the pipes ready to fit or do I need to buy a length of pipe and bend it to shape and cut it to length?

If I have to bend it myself how do I do this without kinking the pipe when I bend it?

Is this something I should be taking on myself in the first place?

Please help. I don't want to go back and ask them to do it now.  :(
NO ;D ;D ;D
