Coolant and heater problem
« on: 02 October 2009, 14:39:45 »

Hello, I'm having a few issues and someone said they may be related to a problem with the heater matrix?

1. Don't get any heat from the heaters and it's getting colder now!
2. If I haven't got the aircon on, the car mists up easily - the scuttles are clear.
3. I seem to have lost a fair bit of coolant recently.
Yesterday morning I could smell coolant inside the car but couldn't smell it in the engine bay, can't see any leaks, holes or damp areas though.

I don't actually know what a heater matrix is though, I don't know where it is and I therefore don't know what I could do about it!
Cheers!

Hi on drivers side put your hand in the side near to the center console near the clutch and see if its wet all pipes are there so if leaking should feel it. :y

I'd also check the HBV (under the scuttle) to check if it's wet / damp

The heater matrix is like a small radiator that sits inside the car, Its in the middle of the center consol at the bottom and a right pita to cange.

As above probably HBV - I would also flush out the heater matrix by detaching the two pipes that go through the bulkhead in the engine bay, sticking a hose in one then the other for a few minutes until the water runs clear.

Worked on mine when I had similar problems. :y

If it was the HBV surely the OP wouldn't have these symptoms  -

If I haven't got the aircon on, the car mists up easily - the scuttles are clear.

Yesterday morning I could smell coolant inside the car but couldn't smell it in the engine bay

Sounds more like heater matrix.
