2.6 Exhaust replacement
« on: 10 October 2009, 21:49:38 »

HI everyone - fairly new on here - regular viewer but not posted much - some terrific advice on here.

I have a quick question if I may - I have just bought an 03 plate 2.6 Elite Saloon - it looks absolutely stunning in black metallic. However the exhaust is looking a bit jaded and will probably need replacing in the next 3-5k miles. Do you know if it's possible to use a twin tail pipe back box with the standard middle boxes - does it make any difference to performance - or any suggestions for something that looks tastefully 'the business' without upsetting the neighbours at 6 in the morning... ;)

Cheers
Ian.

Etheral exhausts are recommended, only around £120 cat back. Quite a few members fitted them, seem to be quite good  :y

Twin box was standard for the 3.2, and will fit on a 2.6 but no difference in performance or noise.

I would look after the genuine exhaust as long as possible. No replacements are as refined.

Eternalcar.com sell about the cheapest replacements and, whilst they are a little more noisy than the orignals they are good for the money and better than the rubbish the fast-fit places supply.

Thanks Kevin, Tunnie,
I'm quite happy to go down the original GM replacement items from Autovaux again (replaced my 2.5 with one and it was perfect) as I know it'll probably last the rest of the life of the car.
SO - can I confirm that if I order 2 x 2.6 mid sections + a 3.2 back box (with twin tail pipes) - it'll all fit together.
OR is there a more meaty looking alternative to the back box (with twin tail pipes) that will still fit the 2.6 sections ?

That will all fit no problem.
could get a meaty looking one from irmscher but looking at three times the price of vauxhall gm one, saying that it will last three times as long to.
had my irmscher on my car now for years and still looks like new.  :y

GM Replacments are not as good as they used to be. Couple of years ago they were double walled and made much, much better. Now its just the same tinny crap you get from KwitFit.

You have 2 options - Eternal or Stainless for a more meaty system

if it's any help, I've just had a quote of £389 for a complete stainless system from the cats back from LongLife in Cardiff - plus 10% off if I buy within 7 days :-?. The back box on my 2.6 is the original GM one, however it's starting to go where the two pipes feed in - I'm going to try & keep it as long as I can - as others say, the original GM dual walled ones are very good, but unobtainable these days  :y
