Remember that RWD doesn't have to be mega stiff like FWD chavmobiles.

Elites can't really be stiffened without loosing the self levelling, and these are pretty much Elite specific

Most people put MV6 suspension on their Elites, stiffer springs than the Elite setup

Thats a possibility if you don't mind losing the self levelling :y, or some people prefer the Bilstein route.

What I'd be wary of is making it too stiff and ruining the comfort factor

Not really worth buying 2nd hand suspension. Prefacelift I believe is just rear shocks (rear springs same between mv6 and non sports models), front shocks and front springs.  Facelift, new springs/shocks all round

New bushes / poly bushes may improve the steering responses and grip levels slightly by reducing unwanted play in the wishbones, but wouldn't "stiffen" the car as such.

I asked this ? once before(fitting facelift MV6 springs all round onto my preface Elite)and MarksDTM answered saying it would be OK and could just adjust the bar on the self leveling device to keep self leveling suspension :).
