Car Tax Confusion.
« on: 17 October 2009, 16:48:57 »

I am REALLY confused.

I have a 1998 Mig, car Tax of around £180 or so.

I know the new Tax rules kick in around March/April 2001 and have always assumed that a 2.5/3.0/3.2 Mig from that date will cost nearly £400 a year in TAX.

BUT...I've just seen a 3.2 Elite (02) on a forecourt with a TAX disk showing £210 for 12 months. Have I got my facts wrong. I'm currently looking for a new Omega and this would change my thinking completely.

Pre March 2001 cars over 2.0, all tax fixed at £190

Post March 2001 but Pre March 2006 cars with engines over 2.0, fixed at £220

Post March 2006, emmisions rules apply.

Garage forecourt one at £210 must have been taxed before the latest £10 increase

I wish the tax bands were based on emissions for pre 2001 cars, because we sure as shit wouldn't get anywhere near £400 for our 4x4 (and neither would a lot of others).

It will never happen of course, because if they did apply it across the board then even the government vegetables would realise it has sod all to do with green.

I've put up a new post which should hopefully clarify this once and for all for ANY vehicle  8-)
