Just rang local stealers for a price for a set of rear brake shoes..part no..90541931..and he was talking about £60 retail and over £40 club......will somebody with access to parts and prices be so kind as to confirm as don,t want to be done...!!!

I remember hearing they are silly money genuine. The frequent recommendation is to go for factor parts. They only sit against the drum when parked, after all.

Don't use genuine for the handbrake shoes.

Hellfrauds do Ferodo brake shoes for about £20 but Hellfrauds will also tell you they don't do Omega ones....

Ignore the parts man and pick up a set with the part no FSB-227 (For Ascona) and job done.

By the way, never yet seen a worn out pair of shoes on any Omega but willing to be proven wrong!

They seem to die when the friction material comes away from the backing IME. It's safe to say that if you're buying "just in case" if the handbrake works and hasn't gone "clunk" "grind" "clatter clatter clatter" you probably won't need to replace them.

Don,t get any noise it just that when I replaced my rear discs and pads several weeks ago,the lining of one of the shoes fell to pieces and now the hand brake doesn,t hold unless you are Mike Tyson.
My plan was ,at some point in the next couple of weeks to remove rear discs again and renew shoes..but at VX prices may be looking at Halfrauds or similar..totally agree Kevin,as they only get used once every bluemoon so cannot see point in those prices,but equally don,t want to start damaging insides of rear discs.

I think you could put bare metal shoes on the inside and the disc part of the rotor would have worn out before the drum part.

The wheel isn't normally even turning when you apply the handbrake, so I'd just got for factor shoes.
