Needed MOT and service and new rear shocks with Trade Club card.

I was pleasantly surprised that my 3.2 passed mot without any issues.

The shocks were £140 for the pair plus £52 fitting
Rear brake pads £12 plus £45 fitting
MOT £35
Topped up ATF - FOC
Reset headlamp sensors and ran Tech 2 FOC
Service £84
Engine oil and filter £24

For a dealer this seems to be fair play in my book.

I'd say not really. 
Fitting of rear shockers would take about 20 mins if you have the luxury of the car on a lift with the shockers in front of you. A nut at the top in the boot and a nut & bolt across the bottom of each.
Rear pads would probably take about the same time if you already have the car in the air swapping shockers.
Toping up ATF  :-/ You sure they did what they said they did? If you remove the fill/level plug from the box after umpteen thousand miles I would expect the ATF to be above the level ... assuming no leaks.
Engine oil & filter costed on top of the price of the service  :-/ isn't an oil change part of a service? If you bought the oil & filter yourself you'd be able to buy them for less than £15 ... so what would Vauxhall buy it for in a 45 gallon drum?

I was really thinking in terms of having stuff done at a dealer rather than doing it oneself. I would trust them to have done the ATF check because we were discussing it and they said it had needed a top up.

I think they have been pretty straight - they also get to work on our Signum as well.

If its not loosing any pressure, and is outside of a repairable position should be fine. I had a nail in one of my tyres for about 2 years, always past MOT, only lost about 1psi a week.

Shouldnt have done imo,if the nail comes out when your driving down the motorway,it could well be disastrous for you and anyone near you.
I,ve lost count of the perfectly good /almost new bike tyres I have chucked in the skip over the years because they had a nail or screw in them.

It is quite possible the tester on both occasions never noticed the nail, although if they did then I would probably begin to question just what they consider "dangerous"

Garage i use for MOT's always fails to notice things, hence i like using them for the MOT 

I know for a fact, the rear passenger side of my hand brake is not holding fulling for the past 2 years, but still it passes

I,m suprised at someone like you making light of something like that Tunnie, I hope you don't carry anyone you love in the car 'cos you'd never forgive yourself if that faulty brake caused them harm mate

it holds fine the side that works

Maybe it's holdimg more than you think? iirc they allow a 20% difference between the two sides.

to what i was told regarding brakes the figures are held on a data base, the tester punches in the results on the p,c & awaits a pass or fail from VOSA, thats how mine failed on the hand brake

If the handbrake is faulty simply because it cannot exert enough pressure to hold the car (eg, stretched cable), then the only way that is going to hurt someone is if you park on a hill and forget to leave the car in gear.
