Replacing Drive Belt

Guys how do you replace the auxillary drive belt of a 3.0 MV6?  Step by step and things to look out for will be really appreciated. Please help.  Thanks.

you need the V6 Cambelt DVD, its in the shop  :y

I think the OP is referring to the fan belt (aux belt) ;)

bugger your right, i just read the title  ::)

Sorry yes if its just the aux belt its a doddle, best way, is to map out its current route on a bit of paper, then pop it off and put the new one on.

15mm on the tensioner i belive to slacken it off, take old belt off, feed new one on. Helps if you have a second pair of hands.

Also make sure you get the right belt, there are air-con & non-aircon belts.

Release the belt tensioner with IIRC a 15mm ring spanner (top left in pic) remove belt and replace.

When fitting, things to be careful of is the belt not fully on the water pump. last time i did one it kept trying to slip off.

Thanks guys. Finally got the old one off. However, there seems to be some burnt plastic around the Tensioner. Does not look like rubber from the old belt. It looks like a plastic shroud or something. :-? :-?

By the way the old belt was shredded.

Looks like your tensioner is seizing - replace it soonest mate!!  Buy just the tensioner pulley - undo the 15mm nut and swap - easy job!

Yes lip is black plastic - had a tensioner seize on my saloon - lots of smoke and burning rubber smell!!  Completely melted plastic part of tensioner pulley and shredded belt lengthwise - bit like an elastic band left on running water pump alternator etc!!

Yup thats it. So it does come with a lip. Plastic melted all over the bearing.  Anyway one last question guys, how do I install the new bearing? Is there a position I should watch out for or is it a straight replacement job?  Thanks a lot guys!
