Had a warning light (exhaust emissions) come on today to which I have not a clue at the momment what it is. By the way thanks Daz for your help and offer.

Looking over the forum it seems popular for lights to come on and need resetting which of course costs money. So I was wondering whether it would be worth investing in a Code Reader as they seem reasonably priced.

Now there seems to be nothing upto date to whether newer multi type code readers work on my Y26SE engine or do you need the dedicated one that is mentioned.

Also if anyone has info what has caused the light to come on would be most appreciated.

Your car, being a 2.6 drive by wire, has its own code reader built in. Quite possibly the most common subject on the forum, so its always worth a search :-)

Follow the link below, you want the pedal trick, read the instructions watch the video and go try it, its easy and above all free. I'll have a pound on 0420 and 0430 pre cat efficiency low, nothing too much to worry about if so. :-)

Remember, it only reads engine codes, all other systems will require a code reader, tech 2 to a basic obd 2 scanner will cover basic code reading. This is also covered in the maintenance guides section if you want to have a look. Hth

I bought a Maxscan as the 3.2 is prone to a "false" emissions light ... it cost £80 ... but considering a visit to the dealers to have the codes read/reset is £70 + VAT ... it would pay for itself in one visit. In 18 months I have used it twice on my car and 4 times on other peoples.

IMHO a good investment .. OK .. it is relatively basic, only does engine codes, but does do limited live data and will reset the light. It does NOT requir a power source or a laptop .. it just plugs into the test socket.
