Whats could be wrong now? :(
« on: 26 October 2009, 12:50:48 »

just been on a quick run to the shops, car started fine, parked, did what i needed then got back in, went to start car, EML stayed on, idle sat at around 1200-1400, then put it in D and no revs, well i think it had gone into "limp mode" could drive it but wouldnt do more than 15-20 mph  :-/......any idea whats up with it now? after around 5 restarts the EML stayed off and it would drive like normal.....its a 2.2 so no pedal trick for codes, and no where local i can get a code reading but could anyone make a rough guess of what could cause this problem? :'(

You might be able to pedal test a 2.2.

However, it sounds to me like a problem with the drive by wire throttle. Need the fault codes from the ECU to confirm, but might be worth checking the connector on the throttle body hasn't become loose.

had a look around the engine nothing looks like it disconnected, ive been out and started it a few times now and it seems to start and drive as normal, when it went into "limp" mode the engine cooling fans were spinning like crazy, the engine wasnt overheating but it was hot, just above 90, could that have anything to do with a problem?.....hoping this was just a one off glitch

Very early 2.2's can be pedal tested, but no 2.2 can ever be paper clipped

I would bet on cam sensor on it's way out.
It's around 60 pounds and you can use only the original one aftermarkets don't work trust me.
How much miles has the car done?

from your description sounds like cam sensor (i had exactly the same symptoms) Don't worry its a cheap easy fix, but replace with a GM sensor!

the car is just coming upto 88,000miles. So if i had to replace these sensors i should only get the genuine ones from Vauxhall? another thing i noticed when i had this problem earlier, when i actually turned the car off again, instead of just stopping dead the engine would sort of splutter twice then stopped ( this is after id turned the igniion off)

Yes only get from Vx, its easy to replace. Aux belt off. Black eco strip off, cam belt cover off, tiny bolt between the cams
