Its straight forward, just take your time. Garages will rush through bodge jobs, spent a good day doing it, and you know its done right, as mentioned use GM gaskets, pattern ones are shite.  :y

not the head gasket then ? any ideas how much the cam gasket costs , cheers for the help
imho, i would sort the water leak first, if it is the head gaskit, no point doing the cam cover until the hg is sorted, its concerning you cant see any external leak. Hbv most likely though i would think...

Shame to scrap it, weighs about 1.6 Tonnes, no idea of scrap prices at the mo. Have you thought of letting someone do the work for you? You obviously like the car. You could have it all done for a day's labour.
My Nephew had a car with no locking wheel stud key, I took him to the local tyre fitter who whipped the studs out in minutes, he wouldn't let us see how though.

Diyer can do it mate no probs just get new head bolts aswell and tighten as said in paynes manual, tbh it seems a shame to weigh it in just cus it has some minor isuues, get em done and you will have a cracking motor. If i had the time and was closer and space i would do it for you without hesitation

If you dont want to buy a torch, you can always increase the weight by filling the tank with water and putting some paving slabs under the seats :y :y

The VIN Plate does not tell you what the vehicle weighs, just what it is ALLOWED to weigh. The first figure you saw was the Gross Vehicle Weight, (2115kg in the case of a V6) This is the weight of the car, driver, occupants, fuel, luggage, and your Granny on the roof rack. The second figure would be the Gross Combination Weight, (a V6 is 3865kg) This is the weight of all above, plus a trailer & it's load, in other words the old Train weight.
Like I said, I would guestimate yours at 1.6 Tonnes, I still say it is do-able.
