sure posted a number of times, but:

viscous off
top end of bottom hose off
3 bolts hold housing on, remove
stat sits in housing

Most factors sell.

(TIS says coolant transfer rail has to come off, but I never have

Nor me. A bit more of a fiddle, but nothing major.  :y

thanks for all the help. now found it and does look ok and simple. cheers all
no need to remove viscous fan in my case anyway, as i run without one, but now temperature is up and down like a pair of pants so suspect a sticky thermostat.

Best to use the genuine Vx red stuff at 50% strength.
Capacity is 10 litres, so pour in the whole 5 litre container's worth.
You'll need to drain the system completely. There's a tapered bolt on the offside of the cylinder block, just aft of the turbo.

As you'll need to purchase a 5 litre container from Vx, it'll be best to do a complete (block and rad) drain anyway.
If you can't find the block drain-bolt, 'PM' me your email address, and I'll forward a drawing.

on TD, drain plug on bottom of rad (bright red) and in block, drivers side, behind turbo

If you're pulling out the stat, you will lose virtually all of it, so no harm in doing a complete job - consider the previous coolant change a bit of a flush ;)

Antifreeze is dirt cheap anyway...
