Buy neither! You want a 3.0 or 3.2 depending on the size of your wallet!  :y  :y  :y

Thee's little difference in economy between any of the V6's. the difference in power though is quite noticable.  ;)  :y :y

I've owned a 2.5 and 2.6 - the economy is not as bad as you might think - good in comparison to some 2 litre cars I have owned. As mentioned, even the 3.2 is good for its size.... :y

If I'm sensible with my 2.5 Auto estate I can get 30+ on a run. My manual 3.0 could top 35 sensibly.

Its around town they seem to suffer IMO

Not sure what you are used to, but you said "Gutless". Remember you are driving a very smooth quiet comfy car, weighing well over a Tonne & a half, so it may seem slow.  ::)

If your realy after  performance and economy, go for a 3.0 / 3.2 with lpg or a 2.5 TD manual and get it chipped.

I have both 3.0 and 2.6 and I don't notice a huge difference in speed, the 2.6 is far from gutless and I doubt its much worse on petrol than a 2.2, so any V6 is more than fast enough

Our first Omega was an X reg 2.0CD auto, which we replaced just over a year ago with a 2001 MV6 2.6 auto.......

Havent really noticed at all that the MV6 costs more to run, insurance is about £6 a month more, but fuel economy honestly doesnt feel much different....

Going over to family in Caernarfon I can get 36 mpg out of it at a steady 65-70mph.....
