Can anyone explain why I have to take the keys out of the ignition to open the boot?  It is driving me crackers!!

No boot lock, dash button and plip only works with keys out-WHY??  OK-this is a safety feature to prevent you from opening it by mistake, but it seems DAFT that no-one can purposefully open the boot without turning it off.

Typical scenario is when you pick someone up with engine running and they want to throw bag in boot-you have to take the keys out-hugely annoying!!

Can this be reset?  Is mine faulty??  The obvious thing to avoid accidental opening would have been to have put two separate buttons on opposite sides of the steering wheel that have to both be pressed simultaneousy to open the boot.

Can anyone help??!!  This spoils an otherwise well though-out car.

I've read of a way you can re-wire it so it can be opened with the keys in. I'll do a search and report back.

Can you not use the boot release on the key fob whilst it's in the ignition?

Before posting, I tried searching "boot release" "boot lock" "internal release" etc-could not see anything on here.

Hillper's mod is brilliant, just bear in mind that your cabin interior light, will stay on for about ten seconds after closing doors, even when driving off. I rigged a by-pass on mine, using the old TrafficMaster switch.

Would that be a wiring the TM switch to break that red wire so you then press both switches simultaneously like I said??

i have an early facelift and Hilpers boot mod is one of the first ones i did, its a life saver!

Vx realised the error of their ways, later facelifts you press and hold to pop the boot.

No CruiseToPoland, just do the mod as per Hillper. If you want to do the TM switch, it is a handy thing to do. If setting off in the dark, as I often do, you will find you are half way down the road before the interior light goes out, blinding you, so with one quick stab of the TM switch, out it goes!

I'm guessing that this is beacuse the TM switch is open until pressed.  Would it not be better to fit a switch that is closed until pressed-to break the circuit.  Am I right in thinking this would give me what I wanted which is to press two buttons at the same time to open the boot with keys in ignition?

I think you were a little confused, what was meant by adding the tm switch was to simply cut the interior light.
If you do hilipers mod, you can press the dash switch to open the boot when the keys are still in the ignition, but a side effect would be that interior light stays on for a bit longer, thus the idea of the tm switch to kill the light...if you're driving at night etc. I don't think there would be any advantage to wiring in another switch to press at the same time to open the boot. I've never accidentally pressed the switch when driving along.

I thought later facelifts had this but obviously not, my W reg was able to open when going along, as I found out one morning
