paper clip fault code ?

Hello oh knowledgeable ones !
Just done the paper clip test with engine running and it gave me just one fault code .. no 19 .. Incorrect Rpm .. can anyone tell me what this is.. and what if anything i need to do about it please.   :-/

its the old favourite Crank sensor....

replace it or break down  :y

Ooops indeed. Had to come home is a crappy Astra-H (France) and a bloody Focus (UK).  Car made it home some 10 days later on a truck.


I ALWAYS carry a spare sensor when going any distance ;D - neither of us want to go through that again (as the breakdown was only a small part of the entire tale!)

I`m probably gonna regret this due to my limited knowledge but ... what does the sensor do ?.... apart from sensoring .... Derrr

Crank position sensor

The tip of it sits very close to a steel wheel with slots cut in it on the back of the crankshaft. It senses variations in magnetic field and is used to calculate where the crankshaft is (and hence the rpm)
