I'm in the process of changes Omega's, on the hunt now for a 2.5/3.0 facelift.

Problem being is that my current 1998 2.5 CD seems to need the rocket gaskets replaced both sides.

I can't justify any further expence nor do I wish to scrap her. She runs perfectly apart from the oil leak.

I won't sell her privately like that nor do I expect a garage to be interested so I'm basically thinking she's a write off.

Any thoughts or advice please !
I prefur to give her away to anyone interested for free if need be.  Any takers ?

Rocker Gasgets are not that expensive Duggs, can you not do it yourself and save some money.

To be honest I could...I guess...but I'm just not geared up to do such stuff. How much should a garage charge do you think.

and buying a facelift that  won't need cam covers doing? Very rare i think!

You know the history of yours, cam covers are not expensive. If i ever bought a replacement Omega i would budget in cam covers....

Same price no matter what year of car, drop a PM to Darth-what ever-his-name-is Knee

About £130 all in is a good price and that includes genuine parts and cleaning the breathers

It's not too bad a job probably easier to do than change an HT lead or DIS pack as you have to take less bits off. I did mine and thought I would save a few quid not using the GM part, but the copy turned out to be slightly different and didn't fit, so I had to bodge it back together and do the whole thing again with the proper part a few weeks later. The Main dealer price was just over £60 for the parts which is shocking for 4 bits of rubber and 16 O rings. I'm sure online sellers can easily beat that.

Duggs, I may be able to help you out... I'm a bit busy at the moment but am only in Woodbridge and could probably spare a couple of hours to give you a hand. I've also got all the tools you need for the job

I'm hoping to pick up a face lift Elite really soon BUT if you could initially spare me a moment of your time, JUST to take a look and see what you think regarding the oil leak I'd be very gratefull "LD".

That's really good, it's a shame you're not nearer!!

Vx quoted me nearly £300 just to do the gaskets, probably didn't include cleaning the breather system....

I'll probably have a go at it myself in the new year...

vx are robbing pikeys on the whole. 60 or 70 sobs seals o rings and sealent,  and an afternoon should do it diy for a first timer.
Will be doing mine this weekend. 52 plate face lift and is actually an 03 car. Buying a later model wont save you mate.

Thing is the longer its left the more likely it will fill the plug wells with oil and damage the plug leads.

There is a guide in maintenance section and always use genuine gm. Pattern barely last 3 months. And clean the breathers while your there. Hth
