How many owners a car has can be totally irrelevant, the condition and the miles are the most important thing. Can the miles be backed up, i.e. with receipts are service records? A quick call to some of the garages to confrim would do the trick. Ideally, the fewer the owners the better. But just because it's had 9 owners doesn't make it a bad car.
For example: It was bought brand new by a fleet leasing company, sold after 1 yr to the leasee...he lost his job so sold it on a few months later. It was then bought by an old couple to tow their caravan, but due to ill health it had to go. Sold it to their son, he didn't like it, he was used to 'hot hatches' sold it 1 month later. That's now 4 owners. Owners can easily rack up.
I think the most important thing is to just generally check the vehicle over. Even if you have no knowledge of vehicles, just sopt any obvious signs of concern. Funny rattle or noises, leaking oil in engine bay, panels don't line up, slightly different colour.
Is it being sold privately or by a trader or dealer?
