Hi
As the title says, i have a over heating problem with my 3.0 V6.
From cold it takes approx 5-6 miles until it is overheating (the needle goes off the gauge )
So far the work i have had done to it is as follows: new thermostat, flushed radiator and fresh coolant (obviously)

The car isnt loosing water from anywhere and the oil cap is clean.

I am at a total loss as to what the problem could be  :-?

might be worth updating your profile to get your location, we may have tech2 near you to run live info off the ECU and get its true running temp.

If its off the gauge its either seriously over heating and its caused damage or its a faulty temp sender off the coolant bridge

the water is definatly very hot. the expan tank bubbles like nuts when the cap is slightly released

  It would do this normally on a car that is up to running temp. as it's a pressurised system .

When you refilled the system did you let it warm up with the cap off and the heater set to high to make sure there are no airlocks?

 Could the water pump propeller blades have broken up and so not circulating the water :-/.

Like pete said, could be an airlock in the system stopping the circulation. Or possibly but less likely the coolant pump blades have broken off.

May be worth checking the head gasket in a bit of detail? (compression test?) I had a Rover once and the head gasket went but for about 1000miles the only symptoms I had was overheating if I put my foot down a bit heavy. Not very likely but if it doesn't seem to be anything else....

Everyone always told me a car wouldn't go without a head gasket but mine went for months!

If there is a tiny leak between a cylinder and the water jacket then it won't show up on a compression test but the much higher combustion pressures will force exhaust gases into the cooling system. If the header tank appears to be boiling when the engine is running but still cold then chances are that it is the early stage of a head gasket failure.

Are both top and bottom radiator hoses getting hot?

Is the whole surface area of the rad. getting hot?

Does the heater work effectively?

I wonder if it's a duff water pump too.

.. but firstly - Are you sure it is overheating? Does it blow the expansion tank cap. Just wondering if the gauge is misreading.

SOUNDS LIKE A BLOCKED RAD TO ME.

I had the same on my Veccy and changed everything but. When the rad was removed it was 3/4 clogged. Problem over. Flushing it doesn't work if it's blocked.
