have you checked the round blue plug by the battery tray, there are 3 plugs side by side, the blue one is g/box connections :y

yesterday i was given the number of an ex vauxhall mechanic and told hes yer man.ive just spoken to him and explained how my box wont select 1st or go throuigh the gears when in d but i can manually select all the gears and he said is yer eml on(yes) and he said the last one he had like that was caused by the crank sensor ive no reason to doubt him and was wondering if anyone else has had thisand is it an easy job to try another :)

AFAIK crank sensor is the one on the engine's crank, if is NOT working, your engine will NOT start, if it is not working correctly your engine will work VERY badly if at all...
So, I would not think that crank sensor will cause ANY problems with gearbox...
ATF level and worn gearbox clutches may cause such problems, I would check ATF first (much cheaper)...

when i first got my mig i had g/box problem [diplayed on the mid] , mine turned out to be the g/box ecu but apparently that is a rarety, double check your switch & multi plugs on the g/box itself as it sounds like the g/box isnt talking to the ecu.

Firstly, the 'expert' vx Vauxhall bloke is obviously an idiot.

Secondly, **any** engine related code can stick box in limp.

Get a code reader on both the engine, the gearbox, and the ABS unit, and see whats what.  This MUST be done by SOMEBODY WHO KNOWS WHAT THEY ARE DOING!!!

a chap brought some codes up on it and he translated them to if i can remember correctly (can svs requirements, maf sensor signal weak, mixture lean, torque control errors of expensive components)only code i remember is p0100,he reckons theres a fault in wiring, expensive component could be ecu, after cancelling codes when i chose a gear the gearbox light came on,after a few miles that went out and eml came back on

Might be worth a trip to Nottingham, and get someone with a tech2 and knows what they are doing to go through it.

For the modest cost in fuel, and tech2 fee, its worth it.
