Auto Gearbox Oil Change
« on: 17 November 2009, 21:55:42 »

Hi all,

I've not long bought my new omega. It's a facelift 2000, 2.5 Elite Saloon Auto.

Question: Can the auto/box oil be changed easily?

My neighbour is a Renault mechanic but is not sure how to do it? Could anyone give pointers etc please?

Thanks in advance, Dave

Easily being a relative term ......  :)

You have to drop the sumps .. there is no drain plug .. :(

Time consuming, dirty, awkward, messy, but not actually "difficult"  :(

When you buy your gearbox oil make sure you also buy a couple of litres of shampoo as well, its a smelly, dirty but easy job ;)

Hi Dave, Not wanting to get covered in tranmission oil I drew out as much oil as possible using a large syringe and a piece of plastic tube, after finding that I had drawn off about 4 litres I decided to call it a day and refilled with new oil (Dextron 2) . I know this is only about half the total capacity but at least its 50% refreshed eh !!
No mess, no buying new gaskets, no problem.
Mike.

Mike, you should have used Dextron 3 not 2 :(.
It's also a good idea to either clean or renew the filter :).

Hi Dave, Yes Pete is correct it was Dextron 3 used and not dextron 2 "Sorry" .As my car had only done 80,000 miles the filter should be fne, obvously these are only things we have done ourselves and only to be used as a guide.
Its up to the individual to do or have done what is needed.

I have found you only seem to get about 5 litres out by removing the sumps anyway...

When I take my autobox sumps off, I may well talk to a nice chap I know in Wiltshire about welding a couple of bosses on them, to fit drain plugs  ::) :)
