Guys,,, am looking fur an omega.. am frightened by the 20 mpg thing of te 2.6 so am looking fur a 2.5 td are these td`s ok if ye know of any let me know thanks... afk

2.5 TD is a good car, but what about a 2.6 with LPG perhaps?

If you're considering a 2.6 in the 1^st place then you are looking at a relatively new car, but you're concerned about running costs so be careful of the March 2001 deadline.

Cars registered after March 2001 will soon cost quite a bit more to tax for the road annually.

No I didnt know about the higher tax, for what cc`s an above, an how much will it cost... what is the Miles per gallon wi a 2,5 td. a 2.0 petrol a 2.2 petrol an a 2.6 petrol...do you know this... thanks.. John

Like any motor the mpg depends heavily on your right foot.   With my V6 (like all) the mpg will go down to around 7 in sports mode (auto gearbox) But on a steady run on motorways with cruise control on its possible to see 40's

it does depend alot on the right foot.... in general from what i'v seen on parkers the mpg goes up one to two if it's manual compared to auto... according to parkers the 3.0 averages 23mpg for the auto and goes upto 26ish for the old 2.0 (bit optamistic though there)

on a journey to work pottering about stop and start and then a quick blast down the motorway i would get 24-25 mpg
and i'm expecting similar in my new 2.5- both of which are autos because of the power and using less of the engines effort in my new 2.5....

the only thing with the facelifts is the tax increase as of march i think it is (can confirm if needs be unless it's previously been stated above)
but for the 2.5 prefacelift/minifacelift it's only going upto 200 for any of the engines

I`m finding it hard to get a auto 2.5 td, thats the one ad like, other than that a V6. is the 2.0 worth bothering about.. I only want it as a a to b car, i have a family car an a van fur work, i wont be doing any serious miles init... so gas consuption fur a v6. ? an a 2.0 ?? an a take it the TD is good on gas. , thanks

I wouldn't of thought the 2.0 would pull you out of bed!! I had a 2.2 a few years back and it was ok but, I now I have the V6 I would never go back, Its sooo much smoother it makes the 2.2 feel like a tractor!! (and I don't just mean a diesel mig).

2.0l is likely to use as much petrol as 2.5, cause you will be using all it can give just to keep up. just 2 days ago drove 2.2 zafira. can't recommend that engine, al least not in zafira - too rough or is it just me getting spoilt with v6

Around town, the BMW powered 2.5TD isn't that economical, particularly in auto form, yet carries a hefty price premium (people see BMW on the engine and get all excitable).  The engine is fine if not abused servicewise in a previous life. But it will be abused. I can guarantee you nobody will have stuck to the 4.5k service interval (and the TD REALLY REALLY doesn't tolerate this sort of abuse)...

The Boy.. so IYO what car would you be chasing... I do like the est fur  carrying stuff in, an always thought the Diesel was the car to get... but whats the best omega out there to get a hold off, an whats the consumption like..

only you can answer.  For me, auto 3.0/3.2 petrol saloon. Would consider a manual diesel model (probably 2.2dti) as a 2nd car.

But I have different priorities

if your planing running about glasgow you won't get any more than 22mpg if your lucky with a 2.5td(auto) try and get a manual. I average 19mpg on a 6mile round trip and mines a auto.

How you getting that in town ?
My 2.0 manual on short town runs gets 29-31 mpg but i have seen it as low as 23mph and on a run i get 39-41 it seems to use less juice at 85 than at 70mph mph why ? i cant work it out.My old 2.5 auto got 18 in town and 34 on a run.
