2.5 TD is a good car, but what about a 2.6 with LPG perhaps?

If you're considering a 2.6 in the 1st place then you are looking at a relatively new car, but you're concerned about running costs so be careful of the March 2001 deadline.

Cars registered after March 2001 will soon cost quite a bit more to tax for the road annually.

Not any more, Omegas are no longer affected by the new tax bands. Its been moved to March 2006, any Omega (including 3.2) will cost no more to insure than a 2.2

Not quite correct

Since all Omegas are going to be registered before March 2006 they have been frozen in Band K despite their high emissions. Have a look a the link, and scroll down, this shows band K will increase to £245 in 2010, an increase of £30.

I would go for a V6, I have a 3.2 estate and love it. If you are DIY competent you can dramatically reduce your servicing costs.

I am thinking of going to LPG to further improve the running costs as I am estimating a 15,000 miles annual mileage.

I haven't owned a 2.0 or a 2.2 (four pot(cylinder) engines) but remember the Omega is a heavy car and these engine sizes may leave the car feeling underpowered.

At the end of the day, it is your personal choice and there will be those on here that will swear by the larger engines, or diesel and those that feel the 4 pot engines are more than adequate for their needs.

What are you intending to use the vehicle for, as that may assist those offering advice.

V6 with a manual box!  Why?  V6 is pretty obvious really but with a manual box you can drive with care and get 30mpg plus in town.

It is a case of drive smoothly and anticipate actions a lot.  You'll get similar economy to smaller cars that way. However when you need to open the tap, well you'll be glad of the v6.

My experience is that I rarely get below 30mpg in town and 38 on a motorway run is possible
LOL, on a 20 mile run out in the country, I've been known to average less than 10mpg in my V6 ::)
