Noisey hydraulic Lifter
« on: 26 November 2009, 08:08:18 »

Is there anything I can put in to quieten a noisey hydraulic lifter. Ive carried out 4 oil changes within 2000 miles using gen vx oil however I still have one noisey lifter on the right hand bank which is really starting to annoy me.

Anyone know of anything??

Hi Forte oil treatment.Works well on high milers.
At the next oil change add to engine leave engine idling for  15 minuits  drain oil  change filter refill with a
good semi-synth .
The idea is that it clears the channels and lubricates the top end. HTH

remove em all and soak em in petrol overnight? that would be a 'quick' treatment instead of the full on lifter servicing. i'm going to do this tomorrow night before refit on a v6 on saturday. hopefully the petrol will get rid of most of the remaining cak.

It wont do anything unless you empty the lifter first and then work the petrol through them

Don't you mean Forte Top End Treatment?
They've several types on the market, so don't confuse this with their Oil Fortifier.
And £7.99 a bottle? - wish I could get it at that price ......

ah i thought it would act like a solvent and if i depressed the lifter springs in the petrol it might break down some of the muck in there?  :-/

Sticking each one in a vice & squeezing all the muck out is a more direct (& much quicker) way of shifting the deposits IMO.

You have already done all the hard work if your cams are out and the lifters accessible.
