An Alarming Problem !
« on: 29 November 2009, 19:09:20 »

Surprised by the fact that I'm still alive to post this question after last night, in so far that my wife hasn't killed me.

Last night my alarm kept going off..at 9, 11 and then fantastically at 4am.

RAC chappy came out this morning, suspected damp in the alarm unit drivers side, under the scuttle. By this time it was going off every 5 mins or so.

Anyway !  He unplugged the power to it and the problem has gone away. However. As a test we locked the doors via the remote and then opened the door via the lock only...and an alarm went off.

I'm really not bothered as it would appear the car, internally is "protected".

My question is this...What have we unplugged and once done so...why does the alarm still go off and protect the car.

That would have been the powersounder. To check the secondary part of the alarm leave a window down, enough to get your hand in and lock as usual. Give it a minute to arm properly, stick your arm in and have a wave. You should get a single horn sounding. If you only get flashing indicators then you have no alarm sounder!

I'd recommend replacing the power sounder anyway. New ones can be sourced either at a Stealer or try eGay.AU as they come up new regularly on there ;) :y

You`ve disconnected the alarm powersounder which acts as a back-up if the main battery is disconnected. The alarm system is still active when set (doors locked) as where the powersounder sits you also have the main alarm horn

Unless, like mine, it was removed with the faulty powersounder. I had to replace both  >:( Hence the window down test ;)

OOOOOOOOOOOOOO...So to be honest. Does it really matter if the powersounder is working or not ?

The car is still protected right ?????

Looks like the main alarm is still ok from our little test today.

Thats interesting .Is the alarm horn an entirely seperate item to the twin horns under FNS arch ?
My facelift only flashes when alarm is initiated and the power sounder never sounds when battery is disconnected. After the recent post re the powersounder melting and catching fire I was going to remove it .
Over here in deepest SW Ireland car theft isn't a problem . least out here in the wilderness it isn't , deadlocking a car is enough .
But i'd like to get the primary alarm working at least.
Is it difficult to get access to the powersounder/ alarm horn ?
