Looks like Guy the gorilla did up the sump plug at the last oil change on my Omega. It's a torx head, rather than one you get a spanner on.

Any suggestions on how to shift it without knackering the sump? I am tempted to cut a slot in it, then try a cold chisel, but better methods would be welcomed!

I had a similar situation and bought a t45 socket from halfords for a couple of pounds and the job was a good'un!

If you post where you live someone closeby might be able to help.

Sump plug is a T45 ..if it is really tight give it a good soak with some plusgas spray then put socket on a long breaker bar and it should release..when refitting only just nip it up as torque setting is just 7lbs.

Mine was also super tight (always serviced at Vaux! ). In the end just used a longer bar on it and it moved quite easily.
Worth buying a new sump plug in advance as it's only a couple of quid and it comes with the O ring. The New T45 head will make it easier next time.

make sure the oil / sump is very hot before you try to undo it 

if its hot, it tends to loosen the cr@p on the thred of the plug

Thanks for the suggestions, I've got the proper torx widget, but I'll get the sump as hot as I can and have another go, before I take a more violent option!

Apply a moderate load to the spanner or bar and then tap it with a hammer etc, the shock is more likely to free it off than a long bar and loads of force.

had the same prob with mine, head was totally wrung and frayed, if its the same as the 2.2dti plug theres enough of the edge proud of the sump to get a pair of vice grips onto it, come off no efort then
