Hopefully a really easy one, headlight related
« on: 02 December 2009, 17:53:53 »

Strong vauxhall family, myself a Sigum my sister a Omega.

It is the omega that i need some help on, she needs to know if her car has xenon lights or not. I always thought it did but not 100%. Anyway i can not get to her car to have a good investigation so is there an easy, full proof, way to tell if it has xenon or just normal lights?

It is 1999 2.5 CDX.

Thanks very much.

have you got headlight washers?

have you got a wheel by the headlight switch mark-3 to adjust aim?

Lift the bonnet and look at the back of the headlights.

If each headlight has two soft rubber caps it is Tungsten Halogen (on both main and dip beam).

If each headlight has one soft rubber cap and one hard plastic lump with a 'high voltage' warning sticker it is HID dip and Tungsten Halogen main.

I think Vauxhall called the HID lights 'Xenon' which is confusing because you can buy replacement Tungsten Halogen bulbs with Xenon in them which are brighter than standard (but not as bright as HID).

Jimbob - thanks yours looks the most likey to suceed in the remote method.

Andy H - I really like your answer but i think i might have difficulties in encouraging her to open the bonnet, but i will store it for when i can get over to her.

So the headlight washers and height adjusting dial. does that indicate HID or just normal halogen throughout?

Actually do have the serial number (well a number off the headlight unit anyway) it is:

W5W PY21W 90 566 797 LH

Does this add anything to the diagnosis of HID or normal?
